Choose a Cabo Verde staycation by island first

A staycation in Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) starts with choosing the island and setting that suit the time you have. A Santa Maria beach resort on Sal, a Boa Vista all-inclusive hotel, a pool hotel in Praia and a small São Pedro property on São Vicente offer very different breaks. For one or two nights, keeping the journey straightforward can give you more time to enjoy the stay itself.

Check the room's actual meal plan: a hotel offering several restaurants is not automatically all-inclusive.

For an all-inclusive stay, Riu Palace Santa Maria and Riu Funana have pool and family facilities. Riu Cabo Verde, ROBINSON Cabo Verde and Meliá Llana are adult-focused alternatives. Verify the minimum guest age and selected package. Riu Funana and Riu Cabo Verde are separate hotels, despite sharing a broad Cabocan address, so confirm the exact name before reserving.

Meliá Dunas and Royal Horizon Beijo Mansão provide further Sal comparisons. Their room categories, review histories and package terms differ. A new hotel's small set of reviews needs a different reading from a long-established property's larger sample; photographs alone do not settle that choice.

Boa Vista: compare the beach setting as well as the package

Boa Vista's hotels in this selection include Riu Palace Boavista, Riu Karamboa, Riu Touareg and Barceló Marine Boa Vista. Check their individual locations. Riu Touareg is on Praia Lacacão, while Barceló Marine is at Praia da Cruz; these should not be treated as interchangeable town addresses.

Riu Karamboa and Barceló Marine are adults-only properties in the partner listings. Riu Palace Boavista and Riu Touareg provide other resort comparisons for parties travelling with children. Check age policies, room occupancy and the selected meal plan rather than inferring them from the brand name.

For a short resort-led break, decide which facilities matter most: a quiet pool, several dining venues, organised activities or time on the beach. Any outing away from the resort needs its own transport plan. A package described as all-inclusive can still have exclusions for particular treatments, activities or services.

Santiago: a Praia hotel with time for the city

For a Santiago staycation, the Praia properties provide an urban alternative to the larger beach resorts. Barceló Praia Cape Verde is in Prainha, with an outdoor pool and sea-facing dining. Pestana Trópico provides another Prainha option with pool and restaurant facilities. Hotel Pérola is in Chã de Areia, with a rooftop pool shown in its gallery.

Choose the address around the city time you want, and leave room to use the hotel. A room with a sea view, a rooftop terrace and a restaurant overlooking the water are different inclusions. Confirm the category you are buying rather than assuming that a property's main image describes every room.

São Vicente and Fogo: smaller settings and a different pace

On São Vicente, Four Points by Sheraton São Vicente Resort and Hotel Oásis Porto Grande offer different Mindelo addresses and facilities. Porto Grande is on Praça Amilcar Cabral; its gallery's beach views should not be mistaken for a beachfront front door. Aquiles Eco Hotel is in São Pedro village, a separate setting from central Mindelo.

On Fogo, Hotel Xaguate is a São Filipe base with a pool, garden areas and restaurant. Choose it for that town-and-hotel combination. A trip into the island's volcanic landscape needs separate transport and planning, rather than being assumed part of an overnight booking.

Compare reviews, journey time and total value

Start with the correct island, then compare the same dates, guest count and room category. If your plan involves an inter-island flight or ferry, check the current timetable and allow for the journey before paying for a short stay. For one night, staying on your starting island may leave more usable time than adding another transfer.
