About staycation.africa

Better short breaks, without spending hours searching. We help travellers discover highly rated stays and strong-value hotel escapes across Africa.

Why staycation.africa exists

staycation.africa was created around a simple idea: a great break does not always require a long flight or a complicated itinerary. Sometimes the right hotel, resort or lodge a few hours from home is exactly what you need.

Our editorial team is based in Africa and has been living on the continent for the past five years, travelling across multiple African countries along the way. That perspective shapes how we think about short escapes here: there are excellent hotels, resorts and lodges across Africa, but finding the right one can still mean sorting through hundreds of listings on large booking platforms.

staycation.africa is designed to make that search simpler. Instead of trying to list every hotel, we focus on stays that stand out because of strong guest ratings, attractive pricing or discounts, and their suitability for a short break — whether that means a romantic weekend, a wellness escape, a beach stay, a city reset or simply a change of scenery.

What we focus on

  • Highly rated stays — hotels, resorts and lodges that receive strong feedback from guests on major travel platforms.
  • Strong value and hotel deals — stays where the current price, discount or overall offer makes them particularly interesting for a short escape.
  • Staycation-friendly properties — places that make sense for a weekend, romantic break, wellness stay or short change of scenery, rather than only as a base for a longer trip.
  • Local discovery — city and destination pages designed to help travellers quickly see worthwhile options close to home or within an easy short trip.

How we build our listings

staycation.africa is a research-driven hotel discovery site. We use information available from accommodation providers, booking platforms and other relevant travel sources, including guest ratings, listed prices, discounts, location, amenities and the type of stay a property offers.

Hotel prices, ratings, discounts and availability can change frequently. The information shown on staycation.africa is intended to help you discover and compare interesting stays, while the booking partner's website provides the final live price, availability and booking conditions.

We do not operate the hotels featured on the site and we do not process hotel bookings ourselves. Our goal is to make the discovery stage faster and more useful by narrowing a very large market down to options that are especially relevant for a short break.

An Africa-first staycation guide

Staycations are often discussed as if they are mainly a European or North American travel trend. We think the idea fits Africa just as well — and in many places even better.

From city hotels in Nairobi, Johannesburg, Lagos and Cairo to beach resorts, wine-country retreats, safari lodges and wellness escapes, Africa has an enormous variety of places that work for a two- or three-night break.

Our long-term aim is to build a continent-wide resource for finding those stays, city by city and destination by destination.

How staycation.africa makes money

Some links on staycation.africa are affiliate links. If you follow one of these links and make a booking with the travel partner, staycation.africa may receive a commission. This does not add an extra charge to your booking.

Affiliate partnerships help support the site, maintain our destination pages and expand coverage to more cities and staycation destinations across Africa.

What we are building

Our ambition is simple: when someone searches for a great staycation in an African city or destination, staycation.africa should be one of the easiest places to discover the options worth considering.

Less searching. Better breaks. Closer to home.
