Sekondi-Takoradi grew around its port and Ghana’s offshore oil industry, so many hotels are built for business travellers — which often means quieter pools and better deals at weekends. The city is a practical base: Market Circle, the harbour and Sekondi’s older quarter are close, and some of Ghana’s best beaches, including Busua and Butre, are within about an hour’s drive to the west.

Best areas for a Sekondi-Takoradi staycation

Anaji is the busy hotel and residential district north of the centre, with the widest choice of mid-range and upscale stays. Airport Ridge is a quieter, upscale area near Takoradi Airport (TKD), with guesthouses and serviced apartments. Beach Road and the harbour side put you closer to the sea, restaurants and the port. Sekondi, the older half of the twin city, has fewer hotels but more history, including Fort Orange.
