When to go and getting around

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the most comfortable months for Marrakech and Fes; summer is very hot inland, while Essaouira and the Atlantic coast stay cooler and windier. During Ramadan, restaurant hours change and some venues close at lunchtime.

Morocco’s rail network links Casablanca, Rabat, Fes and Marrakech, and the Al Boraq high-speed line connects Casablanca and Rabat with Tangier. Main airports include Casablanca (CMN), Marrakech (RAK), Fes (FEZ), Rabat (RBA) and Essaouira (ESU). Prices are in Moroccan dirhams (MAD).

How to compare Morocco hotel deals

Compare the same room type, dates and meal basis, and check what a riad’s rate includes: breakfast, hammam access and airport transfers vary widely. Many medina riads cannot be reached by car, so confirm where taxis drop off and whether staff meet you. Tourist tax is often charged separately per person per night.
