Staycation Africa verdict

Cape Town’s strongest coastal-retreat choice when scenery, spa and seclusion matter more than walkability

The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa is a destination in its own right. Set between the Atlantic and the Twelve Apostles mountain range, the 70-room hotel combines a heated infinity pool, secluded rock pool, award-winning spa and dramatic sunset views on the coastal road beyond Camps Bay.

For a staycation, the biggest advantage is escape. You are close enough to Cape Town for a short break, but the setting feels removed from the city in a way the Waterfront and central Camps Bay do not.

Best for

Who should choose it?

Couples: one of Cape Town’s clearest anniversary and romantic-weekend hotels.

Wellness travellers: the spa is substantial enough to build the whole stay around.

Scenery seekers: ocean and mountain views are fundamental to the experience.

Pools and spa

Heated infinity poolThe Atlantic Terrace pool looks directly over the ocean and is designed for long, scenic afternoons.
Rock poolA second pool is tucked into the mountainside and surrounded by fynbos for a quieter swim.
Award-winning spaSeven treatment rooms, tranquility lounge, Rasul Chamber, hydrotherapy and plunge pools create true destination-spa depth.

Rooms: ocean or mountain?

Most of the 70 individually designed rooms and suites have either ocean or mountain outlooks. Classic, Milkwood, Deluxe and Luxury categories differ in terrace/balcony position and space. For a romantic stay, we would prioritise the view first; ocean-facing categories make the coastal setting the dominant part of the experience.

Dining and poolside time

Poolside lounger service comes from The Café Grill, with drinks and light meals available at both pools. The wider hotel dining programme includes more formal options and afternoon experiences, making it easy to remain on-property for the full weekend.

How we would book it

Book spa treatments early—the hotel itself recommends advance reservations. For one night, spend the room-upgrade budget on the view you actually want rather than simply choosing the largest room. In summer, pool access is a major part of the value; in cooler weather, spa and dining become even more important.

Why we’d book it

  • Exceptional Atlantic and mountain setting.
  • Two very different pools.
  • One of Cape Town’s deepest hotel spa experiences.
  • Feels genuinely removed from the city.

Trade-offs

  • Not walkable to Camps Bay restaurants or the Waterfront.
  • Premium pricing is significant.
  • Guests seeking nightlife and urban energy will feel isolated.

Nearby & practical context

The hotel sits on Victoria Road between Camps Bay and Llandudno/Hout Bay. That makes it excellent for scenic coastal drives and quiet weekends, but transport is needed for most outside dining and attractions.
