Touba is the spiritual centre of the Mouride Sufi brotherhood founded by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, and home to the Great Mosque of Touba. It is not a leisure resort: most visitors come for pilgrimage, family and religious occasions, and the city follows its own rules. Accommodation is limited and simple, so many visitors stay with family, in guesthouses or in neighbouring Mbacké.
Best areas for a Touba stay
Central Touba around the Great Mosque is where demand for rooms and transport is highest, especially during religious events. Mbacké, the neighbouring town a short drive away, adds hotels, campements and residences. Along the main roads, residences can suit travellers arriving late by car who want easy parking.
